‘Magic on the Water’ Exhibit Opens at Disneyland Tomorrow Morning

Guests to Disneyland will get the first chance to see a brand new exhibit tomorrow morning, as Magic on the Water:  The Art of the “Happiest Fleet on Earth” opens with the park at The Disney Gallery.
Since Disneyland was little more than a gleam in Walt Disney’s eye, water – and ways to convey guests on the water – have played a central role in transporting and entertaining guests.  Today, visitors to Disney’s various parks have the opportunity to float through wild jungle landscapes, beneath polar icecaps, across magical lagoons …

‘The Memories, the Magic, and You’ Comes to Disneyland Resort

Last week, we told you about the brand new projection show at Magic Kingdom, “The Memories, the Magic, and You.”  Yesterday evening, guests of Disneyland Resort got their first glimpse of their very own version of the show.
Whereas the Walt Disney World presentation showcases amazing photography and projection onto Cinderella’s Castle, the backdrop for Disneyland’s show will be the facade of “It’s a Small World.”  And that’s where the show takes on a personality that is completely in keeping with the magic and history of Disneyland Resort.
The show will combine guest experiences, …

Reports of Disney Dream ‘Near Collision’ Appear to Be Exaggerated

Video of the Disney Dream maneuvering close to a Royal Caribbean ship in Port Canaveral has surfaced today, along with reports of the incident.  However, claims that Disney’s new ship came dangerously close to the other vessel appear to be exaggerated.
The video, shot by a passenger of Royal Caribbean’s Monarch of the Seas, shows the Disney Dream maneuvering near the other ship, the water clearly churning below by the power of the Disney ship’s engines.  The video was apparently shot on January 17 during a muster drill on the Royal Caribbean ship, …

Disney Contemplating Pulling Out of Hulu

The Wall Street Journal is reporting today that both Disney and Fox are considering pulling their content from online video provider Hulu, due to conflict over the service’s business model.
While the site was designed to enable its sponsors to combat pirated versions of TV shows on the internet, it now appears that the plan has backfired – and that the site is actually siphoning viewers away from backers, like Fox and NBC.
As a result, NBC, News Corp (owner of Fox), and Walt Disney are “increasingly at odds,” with Hulu, and …

Disneyland’s Main Street Under Construction Through Spring

If you’re heading to Disneyland Resort anytime soon, be prepared to see a lot of construction walls.  In addition to the major overhaul taking place at Disney’s California Adventure, Disneyland’s Main Street U.S.A. will also be undergoing routine maintenance.
Guests will be zig-zagging their way around construction walls for at least the next two months, as crews work on Main Street’s cement.  While the work will take place mostly at night, the walls extend nearly the length of Main Street, from the park’s entrance, almost to Sleeping Beauty’s Castle.
During the project, …

Disney Interactive Shifts Focus, Eliminating 200 Positions

In an attempt to stem losses which number in the hundreds of millions, Disney Interactive announced radical changes to its business plan on Monday.  The company will shift attention away from creation of console games, and instead focus on online and mobile entertainment.
The move included the layoff of approximately 200 employees, as well as the closure of an entire game development studio.
Co-Presidents John Pleasants and James Pitaro, who joined the company in October, said in an email to employees Monday night that the move was necessary.  “Reorganizations require very difficult decisions …
