Changes Coming to Disneyland Grad Nite in 2012 and 2013

For the past 50 years, high school seniors have flocked to Disneyland to celebrate their graduations at “Grad Nites,” special nights that have been set aside for these graduates to enjoy the park to themselves. Now, Disney has announced some new changes coming to this Disneyland tradition. Unlike Walt Disney World, whose Grad Nites were recently discontinued, the Disneyland Grad Nites will continue, but with a few new twists.

Director David O. Russell Reportedly Interested in ‘Maleficent’ Starring Angelina Jolie

With director Tim Burton no longer on board, Disney’s upcoming film Maleficent has been drawing attention from some other top-name directors, including Darren Aronofsky and David Yates. The most recent director said to be interested in the project, however, is David O. Russell, known for his work on such films as The Fighter and I Heart Huckabees. Selena Gomez Talks About Challenges of Being a Disney Girl, Love for Acting and Music

On a recent trip to Miami to promote her new film, Monte Carlo, Selena Gomez discussed the challenges that come with being a “Disney Girl.” While she admits that this very “family-friendly” image does cause her to be typecast, she says that the label does not bother her. If anything, it inspires her to put even more effort into her work.
Gomez explains:
“[Being typecast] doesn’t bother me. That allows me to know that I have to work and fight hard in the movie theaters to be a better actress.”

Medal Unveiled for Inaugural Tinker Bell Half Marathon

Runners in the Inaugural Tinker Bell Half Marathon this year will definitely have something to look forward to when they reach the finish line. Disney recently unveiled the gorgeous medal for the new event, featuring fairy wings and a spinning Tinker Bell figurine, which awaits runners who complete this 13.1 mile run.
The Tinker Bell Half Marathon will take place over the weekend of January 27-29, 2012 at the Disneyland Resort. Runners will make their way through a course that goes through Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park, and several landmarks …

First Four Minutes of ‘The Lion King’ in 3D to Accompany 3D ‘Cars 2’ Screenings

Heading to see Cars 2 in theaters this weekend? Audience members at 3D screenings of the film, which opens today in theaters, will have an extra treat. Teaser Poster for Disney/Pixar’s ‘Brave’ Released

More details are beginning to come out about Disney/Pixar’s upcoming film Brave, and we couldn’t be more excited. Disney released their first still from the film a few weeks ago, and starting this weekend, a teaser trailer for the film will debut before showings of Disney/Pixar’s Cars 2 in theaters. Now, Disney/Pixar has released their first teaser poster for the film, a gorgeous portrait of the film’s main character Princess Merida against the Scottish landscape.

First List of Narrators for Epcot’s Christmas Candlelight Processional Released

Yesterday, we got our first glimpse of who will be telling the story of Christmas at Epcot Christmas Candlelight Processional during the 2011 holiday season.
Some familiar faces will return this year to participate in the beloved winter tradition, which intermingles traditional music with the telling of the Christmas story.  Featuring three choirs, a live orchestra, and the famed Voices of Liberty, the event also features a celebrity narrator each evening.

Disney Executive Al Weiss Announces Retirement

In a letter to employees this afternoon, Al Weiss, president of worldwide operations for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, announced that he would be retiring from the company in November of this year.  Weiss will step down from his leadership position immediately, but will continue on with the company until November 1, working directly with Disney Parks Chairman, Tom Staggs, until that time. 
Weiss has spent his entire 39-year career with Walt Disney World.  Beginning in an hourly position as a teenager, he rose through the ranks to an executive position, …
