Disney VoluntEARS Help Communities in China and Hong Kong

For the last three decades, Disney’s VoluntEARS have been giving their time to benefit local communities, and recently a group of VoluntEARS joined Habitat for Humanity in China as part of a five-day house building project.
The project took place in rural China in the Rongshui County in Guangxi and the team built houses and helped the village install a new drainage system. They also visited the local schools to give books to the local children.

ABC Family Greenlights Production of Three New Shows

Pilot episodes of three new comedy series received the greenlight by ABC Family, joining two other back-order greenlights for The Fosters and Twisted.
“We have seen great success with our comedy series and look to grow our comedy offerings. These pilots offer a great mix of humor and iconic characters,” said Kate Juergens, Executive Vice President, Original Programming and Development and Chief Creative Officer, ABC Family.

September Merchandise Events Announced for Disneyland Resort

The Disneyland Resort has announced the lineup of merchandise events for the month of September and it includes a Precious Moments doll release and a Disney Trading Night.
On September 7 guests can stop at the WonderGround Gallery in the Downtown Disney District for a peek at the current Pop Fusion exhibit featuring releases by Joey Chou and Michelle Romo. The event takes place from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. and will showcase original and limited edition artwork as well as merchandise inspired by the art.

Disney XD Orders Fourth Season of Hit Live Action Comedy Series ‘Kickin’ It’

The Wasabi Warriors will be back next year. A fourth season of Kickin’ It has been ordered by Disney XD.
The martial-arts inspired series has been one of Disney XD’s highest rated series since its premiere in June 2011.
“Kickin’ It continues to pack a punch with relatable storytelling, aspirational characters and non-stop action,” said Adam Bonnett, Executive Vice President, Original Programming, Disney Channels Worldwide. “Viewers have watched the Wasabi Warriors grow from inexperienced misfits into inspiring martial artists and we look forward to continuing their journey in the fourth season.”

Disney Closing ‘Toontown’ and Other Virtual World Online Games

In a week that brought the highly-anticipated debut of Disney Infinity, the Walt Disney Company has announced that it is closing down the decade-old Toontown Online video game.
The online game will shut down on September 19, along with the Pirates of the Caribbean Online and Disney Fairies Pixie Hollow. Toontown is what’s known as a massively multiplayer online game (MMO) and cost players $9.95 a month to play.

Disney Legend and retired Imagineering executive Marty Sklar has authored a new book Dream It! Do It!: My Half-Century Creating Disney’s Magic Kingdoms.

D23 Announces Next Installment in From the Vaults Series

The next installment of D23’s From the Vaults series is a screening of the digitally restored classic 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

Tickets on Sale Now for Old Spice Classic Basketball Tournament at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex

Tickets are on sale now for the 2013 Old Spice Classic which kicks off on Thanksgiving Day at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
The tournament field for this year features Butler, LSU, Memphis, Purdue, Oklahoma State, Saint Joseph’s, Siena, and Washington State. According to a pre-season ESPN poll both Oklahoma State and Memphis are ranked in the Top 15.
Five teams from this year reached the postseason last year, and Butler, Memphis, and Oklahoma State reached the NCAA Tournament.
