Additional Week Added to the 2014 Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

The Walt Disney World Resort has announced that an additional week has been added to the 2014 Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The new dates for Star Wars Weekends are: May 16-18, May 23-25, May 30-June 1, June 6-8, and June 13-15.
In addition to the extra week of festivities, Star Wars Weekends will include a nightly fireworks display on each night of the event.
The fireworks will feature music from the Star Wars movies, and there will also be a new nightly event taking place on Hollywood Blvd at Disney’s …

March 2014 Merchandise Events Announced for Disneyland Resort

March is coming in like a lion at the Disneyland Resort with a full slate of merchandise events planned for the month.
On March 1 guests can stop by the WonderGround Gallery in the Downtown Disney District to meet artists Jasmine Becket-Griffith, Noah, Kristin Tercek, and Gregg Visintainer from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Also on March 1 and 2, Jere Dean from Urban Octopus will be at WonderGround Gallery from 1-4 p.m. each day, and again from March 8-9, showcasing the latest artwork of Urban Octopus.

New Merchandise Available for 2014 Princess Half Marathon at Walt Disney World Resort

This weekend, thousands of runners are descending upon the Walt Disney World Resort for the 2014 Princess Half Marathon Weekend.
The runners – and their fans – have a chance to purchase some great merchandise items commemorating their runs.
As with other runDisney races, Disney merchandise has created a variety of shirts for the race weekend including T-shirts, hoodies, jackets, and tanks. There’s a new line this year for those who are watching from the sidelines, including T-shirts for the kids and husbands.

Disney Consumer Products Debuts New Toys at the American International Toy Fair

Disney Consumer Products is ready to dominate the boys toy aisles this year with new toys inspired by soon-to-be-released movies and television series.
The highly anticipated toy lines feature products from Disney’s Planes: Fire & Rescue, Star Wars Rebels, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Hong Kong Disneyland Planning New Hotel and Experiences

Hong Kong Disneyland had its most successful year ever in 2013 and set attendance and hotel occupancy records for the fourth straight year.
The success was due in part to the opening of Mystic Point in May 2013, Grizzly Gulch in 2012, and Toy Story Land in 2011. The three themed areas increased the size of the park by one fourth.
Adding to the ongoing success of the park, it was announced this week that Hong Kong Disneyland is planning to build a 750-room Disney-branded hotel.

Extra Week Added to the 2014 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival

This fall’s Epcot International Food and Wine Festival is going to be sticking around for a little bit longer.
Disney announced this week that the Festival has added an additional week to the schedule, which means it will run from September 19 through November 10.
That’s 53 days of food and wine festivities.
The Epcot International Food and Wine Festival features culinary demonstrations, special events, and celebrity chefs. And of course the Marketplace booths are the highlight of the festival where guests can dine on delicious small plates at more than two dozen …

Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle Parade at the Animal Kingdom to End in June

The Animal Kingdom’s daily parade – Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle Parade – is set to end sometime this summer according to Disney.
Construction work is continuing on the Avatar-inspired land expansion at the Animal Kingdom and the work will soon impede the viewing area and parade path.
The Avatar-inspired land is scheduled to open in 2017 and will take over and expand beyond the Camp Minnie-Mickey area. The Festival of the Lion King is moving to an all-new theater in the Africa section of the park.

Matchups Announced for the 2014 MEAC/SWAC Challenge Presented by Disney

Disney has announced the teams for the 10th annual MEAC/SWAC Challenge.
North Carolina A&T and Alabama A&M – two Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) –  are scheduled to face off during the annual celebration of diversity, higher education, and football.
The event has been sponsored by Disney for the last seven years as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to diversity and community.
The teams represent the Mideastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).

The Walt Disney Company Launches Accelerator Program for Startups

The Walt Disney Company has announced a new three-month mentorship and seed-stage investment program for startups called Disney Accelerator.
The program will be based in Los Angeles and is powered by Techstars. Michael D. Abrams, Disney’s senior vice president, Innovation, is overseeing the project.
Ten startup companies will be selected to participate in the program and will receives $120,000 in investment capital to develop their ideas in addition to receiving mentorship support from Disney executives.

The Atlanta Braves Report to Spring Training at the Disney World’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex

It’s that time of year again – spring training time at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at the Walt Disney World Resort.
The Atlanta Braves pitchers and catchers started their pre-season workouts on Valentine’s Day this year and the full team is reporting today, February 18. This year is the 17th year of Braves Spring Training at the complex.
