american idolAmerican Idol is set to return to the small screen thanks to an agreement between ABC and FremantleMedia North America and 19 Entertainment.

The popular music competition series ended its run on Fox at the end of the 2015-16 season, but will be back on ABC for the 2017-18 season. A host and judges for the show will be announced at a later date.

American Idol is a pop-culture staple that left the air too soon,” said Channing Dungey, president, ABC Entertainment. “ABC is the right home to reignite the fan base. We are thrilled viewers will once again share in these inspiring stories of people realizing their dreams.”

The show has earned 67 Emmy nominations and 9 wins, and the talent from the show has won 14 Grammys, two Golden Globes, and an Academy Award.

American Idol launched the careers of Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, Katharine McPhee, Adam Lambert, and Chris Daughtry.

The American Idol Experience was housed for five years at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The winner of the audition won a Dream Ticket that gave them front-of-the-line privileges at an American Idol audition.

There is no official start date for the renewed series on ABC.
