AquaDucky Derby on Board Disney Cruise Ships to Benefit Make-A-Wish International

The very first AquaDucky Derby rubber duck race happened recently in the pools and water coasters on Disney Cruise Line ships to benefit Make-a-Wish International.

Disney Cruise Line guests and crew decorated thousands of rubber ducks for the race. On the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy the ducks were placed at the top of the AquaDuck and 10,000 gallons of water rushed into the water coaster, sending the ducks racing through the tunnel before reaching the finish line.

Meanwhile, over on the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder, as One Direction’s That’s What Makes You Beautiful played in the background, guests and crew voted for the best decorated duck. The ducky race took place in the Goofy pool with guests and crew creating a current to carry the ducks to the other side.

This event was part of the 30th anniversary of the Disney VoluntEARS program. Last year DCL cast and crew members completed 75 community outreach projects, donating more than 4,500 hours of service to nonprofit organizations onboard the ships and in communities throughout Florida, The Bahamas, Mexico, and Europe.

All money raised in the AquaDucky races is being donated to Make-A-Wish International, an organization that grants wishes for children who are facing life-threatening medical conditions in 48 countries outside of the United States. DCL is a long-time Make-A-Wish supporter and has fulfilled nearly 700 cruise wishes for children and their families every year.
