‘Avengers’ Has Highest Domestic Opening Weekend of All Time, Grosses $200.3 Million

Last week, we brought you the news of The Avengers record-setting grosses in countries all around the world. This weekend, however, the film made its US debut and its box office records were brought to soaring new heights. Grossing $200.3 million over the past three days, The Avengers successfully overtook Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 to have the highest-grossing domestic debut of all time.

Earning a rare perfect A+ CinemaScore from moviegoers, The Avengers has become the fastest movie to earn $200 million domestically. The film earned $80.5 million on its first day of release, making it the second highest single-day box office gross of all time. On Saturday, the film set the record for the highest Saturday take of all time, bringing in $69.7 million.

After debuting internationally on April 25, The Avengers has now crossed the $600 million mark in worldwide grosses after just 12 days in theaters. With the film still so early in its theatrical release period and still awaiting its debut in the major international markets of Israel, Poland, and Japan, the film’s success seems far from over.
