According to authorities, at least 59 people in California have been diagnosed with the measles since December. Forty-two of those cases have been linked to an exposure at Disneyland or Disney California Adventure Park.

The confirmed measles cases include five Disneyland Resort cast members according to a statement released by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).

The measles is a highly contagious airborne disease the begins with a fever, cough, runny nose, and red eyes and within a few days a rash normally appears on the face and then spreads down the rest of the body.

The CDHP is asking guests who have not received the MMR vaccine to avoid visiting Disneyland and Disney California Adventure “for the time being.” They are also urging residents to check their vaccination status with their doctors.

The local health departments and the CDHP consider this measles outbreak to be an “ongoing situation” and the CDHP says they expect to hear additional reports of cases of the measles.
