D23 Celebrates 50th Anniversary of ‘Mary Poppins’ and the Release of ‘Saving Mr. Banks’ with a Special Winter Edition of ‘Disney twenty-three’ Magazine

As part of the year-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of Mary Poppins and in honor of the upcoming release of Saving Mr. Banks, D23 is dedicating the winter issue of Disney twenty-three magazine to everyone’s favorite nanny.

The issue features interviews with Saving Mr. Banks stars Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson and the film’s director John Lee Hancock. Readers will also get a sneak peek behind the scenes of the movie. Saving Mr. Banks tells the story of how Mary Poppins was finally brought to the big screen.

D23 – the official Disney fan club – is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Mary Poppins with a video reconstruction of the the film’s world premiere at Grauman’s Chinese Theater in 1964. D23’s online celebration will also include an interactive map of Walt Disney Studios with photo locations from Saving Mr. Banks, extensive Mary Poppins galleries, an in-depth look at the film’s production timeline, and more. Mary Poppins will officially celebrate its 50th anniversary next August.

The winter issue of Disney twenty-three will also feature a personal reminiscence by P.L. Travers’ friend Brian Sibley, and insight from Richard M. Sherman who was the original film composer, visual consultant Tony Walton, and choreographers Marc Beaux and Dee Dee Wood.

Disney twenty-three is available exclusively to D23 Gold Members, and inside the winter issue members will find a reproduction of the ticket mailed to invitees for the 1964 premiere of Mary Poppins.
