Disney Acquires Online Parenting Platform Babble Media, Inc.

The Walt Disney Co. has announced the acquisition of Babble Media, Inc., an online parenting platform that features more than 200 influential mom bloggers. With the recent acquisition, Disney Interactive Media Group’s Moms and Family portfolio has only grown stronger as a leading resource for moms and families, and now has a blogging platform that enables first-person stories of parenthood to rise to new heights.

Babble was created in 2006, and since then has been a supportive and encouraging community of parents who are experiencing the highs and lows of parenting. In fact, it is one of the most popular parenting websites, with Time magazine awarding them a spot on their 50 Best Websites of 2010 list, and receiving accolades from Forbes as one of the Top 100 Websites for Women.

Now that Disney has acquired the company, Disney Interactive will incorporate its Moms and Family content into Babble, with the end goal of enriching the users experience and showcasing the best of what Disney has to offer families.

Says Brooke Chaffin, SVP of Moms and Family, Disney Interactive Group:

Parents’ relationships with Disney are founded in stories, and Disney’s best stories are about families. We believe that Babble and Disney can harness the power of storytelling to inform, entertain and empower parents everywhere. With more than 3.9 million mom blogs in the US alone, Disney Interactive recognizes and values the important and powerful role moms have taken on in new media.

The co-founders of Babble, Rufus Griscom and Alisa Volkman, are excited about the next step as well, saying “We can’t imagine a better next step than joining the world’s leading media company for families, The Walt Disney Company, and look forward to bringing together Babble’s resonant voice and community with Disney’s expansive family audience, wide range of content and multi-media platform.”

Both Volkman and Griscom will join the Disney Interactive Media Group, while Babble will remain headquartered in New York.
