Disney and Pixar Announce New Details About Upcoming Film Slate at D23 Expo

doryLast weekend’s D23 Expo was full of exciting news about the Disney Parks, but fans also had a chance to hear updates about the film slates from Disney and Pixar.

The film presentation was led by John Lasseter, chief creative officer of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios.

Pixar introduced an all-new short film Riley’s First Date which revisits Riley (from Inside Out) who is now 12 years old. The film ventures into the minds of Riley’s parents when a boy shows up at the front door. This new short film will be included as a bonus in the digital HD & Blu-ray release of Inside Out which arrives on Blu-ray on November 3.

Disney/Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur opens November 25 and fans at D23 Expo were treated to footage of a trio of T-Rexes. The film tells the story of Apatosaurus Arlo and his human friend Spot.

Walt Disney Animation Studios announced that international superstar Shakira is lending her voice to the character of Gazelle in the new film Zootopia. The film opens March 4, 2016.

Finding Nemo fans are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Finding Dory on June 17, 2016, and Ellen DeGeneres (the voice of Dory) was joined by Ed O’Neil, Ty Burrell, and Kaitlin Olson – all of whom are voicing characters in the film – during the Expo.

Finding Dory reunites Dory with Nemo and Marlin as she searches for answers about her past. Dory and friends will travel to different locations and will meet many new sea creatures along the way.

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Moana is arriving in theaters in November 2016 and stars Dwayne Johnson (San Adreas) as the mighty demi-god Maui. The film tells the story of a spirited teen who sets out on an adventure to prove that she’s a master wayfinder.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Toy Story and fans can expect to see Toy Story 4 in theaters on June 16, 2017. The film will tell the love story of Woody and Bo Peep.

Two other films showcased at D23 were Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Gigantic, which is a take on Jake and the Beanstalk that arrives in 2018, and Coco which is set against the celebration of Dia de los Muertos.
