Disney Interactive Ends Production of Disney Infinity

disney infinityDisney Infinity is no more.

Disney Interactive has announced that they have decided to discontinue production on Disney Infinity effective immediately.

Two final retail releases are planned including three new characters from Alice Through the Looking  Glass arriving this month and a Finding Dory play set that will hit store shelves in June.

The announcement of the end of Disney Infinity also means the developer of the games, Avalanche Software, is closing and nearly 300 developers could lose their jobs.

The last Disney Infinity game was 3.0 launched last August.

Disney Interactive cited a lack of growth in the market and high development costs are two factors that lead to the demise of Infinity. The end of Disney Infinity marks the end of Disney publishing video games, but other companies including Electronic Arts will still create games based on Disney films and characters.
