Disney Makes Red Cross Donation for Earthquake Victims, Encourages Cast Members to Donate by Matching

Although Tokyo Disney Resort remains closed while the entire property undergoes a comprehensive safety inspection, Disney is doing its part to assist victims of the tragic Japan earthquake and resulting tsunami.

The company is making a donation of $2.5 million to the Red Cross in an effort to aide disaster relief.  In addition, the company is challenging its cast members to give as well:  for every dollar that cast members donate, Disney will match, dollar for dollar, up to an additional $1 million.

Tokyo Disney Resort will remain closed until March 21, at which time officials will assess the situation.  While the resort sustained only minor damage, the surrounding infrastructure and transportation systems were more severely damaged.  Disney has reported, however, that all guests who had been stranded due to transporation issues have now been able to leave.
