Disney Publishing Worldwide Launches ‘Star Darlings’
This property features 12 unique girls who encourage tweens to celebrate individuality, make positive choices, and show they can make any wish a reality.
The North American launch includes two novels and other Star Darlings content will include a storytelling and lifestyle app, music from Walt Disney Records, an animated series of shorts on YouTube, and a fashion dolls line created with JAKKS Pacific that will be sold at Justice stores.
Each Star Darling has her own wish that she pursues with the help of her friends and each doll is meant to inspire tweens to follow their dreams.
“‘Star Darlings’ represents a fully-realized world where strong, confident girls are front and center,” said Andrew Sugerman, executive vice president, Disney Publishing Worldwide. “We’re excited to announce this all-new, innovative property tailor-made for today’s tween, and the launch of ‘Star Darlings’ represents one of our broadest multi-platform launches to date.”
The story of the Star Darlings begins on Starland where 12 girls from the Starling Academy are chosen to be the first students to travel to Earth. The stories include themes of friendship, confidence, leadership, and teamwork.
Star Darlings was originally conceived by designer Shana Muldoon Zappa and her husband author Ahmet Zappa.
Disney Consumer Products has teamed with Justice for a marketing campaign tied to Star Darlings. The stores will carry a collection of Star Darlings books, dolls, and apparel. Some items will also be available at select Disney Store locations and on Disney Store.com.
