Disney Studios to Adapt Beloved Children’s Book for Screen

Thanks to our friends at Blue Sky Disney, we’re learning that Walt Disney Pictures may be giving a beloved children’s book the star treatment in the very near future.

Under the new guidance of Alan Horn, Walt Disney Studios looks to be producing Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.  The children’s book, by author Judith Viorst, tells the story of a young boy who gets up on the wrong side of the bed — and his day goes down hill from there.

According to BSD, Lisa Cholodenko has been tapped to direct, and actor Steve Carell is attached to the project as well.  The film was originally slated to be produced by 20th Century Fox, but budget issues squelched the studios’ interest.  Once it was released, Disney won the race for the rights.

There is no word on when we can expect the film in theatres.  But I, for one, cannot wait.
