Upcoming Disney Film ‘The Hill’ to be Based On Disneyland’s Matterhorn Bobsleds

It looks like another Disneyland attraction will soon be heading to a movie theater near you. Disney is developing a new film inspired by the Matterhorn Bobsleds at Disneyland Park, currently titled The Hill. The film will be written by screenwriter Jason Dean Hall, and produced by Tron Legacy and Prom producer Justin Springer.

This announcement only continues Disney’s current trend of producing theme park attraction-based films. Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise, based on the popular Disneyland and Walt Disney World attraction, has grossed $3.7 billion worldwide over four films. A film based on The Haunted Mansion is currently in the works with director Guillermo del Toro, and rumors have circulated about films for other attractions, including the “Jungle Cruise.” Also in development is Magic Kingdom, a film that will center on Disneyland Park as a whole.

The Hill will be a thrilling adventure movie about five young adventurers called to the top of the Matterhorn. Their journey down from the mountain brings them face-to-face with a Yeti. The Matterhorn Bobsleds attraction, located in Disneyland’s Fantasyland section, was originally inspired by Walt Disney’s trip to Switzerland when filming Third Man on the Mountain in the late 1950’s. The attraction, a toboggan-themed roller coaster, has been delighting Disneyland guests since 1959.
