Disney to Discontinue “Walk of Magical Memories” at California Parks

If you would like to be a part of Disneyland Resort’s “Walk of Magical Memories” program, now’s the time to do it.  Effective February 28, 2011, the program will be discontinued for the Resort’s theme parks.

For the last 11 years, Disney has offered fans and guests the opportunity for Disney immortality:  guests could sponsor a personalized paving stone, which would then be placed in the entrance area to Disneyland or Disney’s California Adventure.  Recently, however, the company has opted to discontinue the practice, and will only provide general maintenance to existing stones after the program ends.  Disney plans to have all stones sponsored by February 28 installed no later than August 31, 2011.

Disney has prepared the following list of Frequently Asked Questions for current sponsors.

Q. Why has sponsorship for Disney’s “Walk of Magical Memories” paving stone program ended?
A: As we continue to evaluate our offerings throughout the Resort, we have made the decision to no longer continue the Disney’s “Walk of Magical Memories” program.

Q: Is there a way Disney can place me on the “waiting list” if new paving stones become available?
A: A wait list is not available. 

Q: Are there any plans to remove or relocate Disney’s “Walk of Magical Memories” paving stones?
A: At this time, there are no plans to remove or relocate the paving stones.

Q: What happens if my paving stone needs to be removed or relocated? Will you let me know?
A: If a paving stone needs to be removed prior to the 10th anniversary of sponsorship (see sponsorship agreement, item number four) a full refund of your sponsorship fee will be issued.  If the stone is removed after the 10th anniversary of sponsorship, no refund is required per the sponsorship agreement.  At this time, there are no plans to remove or relocate the paving stones.

Q: I sponsored a Disney’s “Walk of Magical Memories” paving stone within the past three (3) months. Will my paving stone still be installed?
A: Any paving stones sponsored prior to February 28, 2011 are scheduled to be installed by August 31, 2011.   

Q: Upon a recent visit to the Disneyland® Resort, I noticed that some of the paving stones include the “2011” Mouse Ears dated logo on them.  I thought Disney wasn’t allowing Guests to sponsor new paving stones?
A: Those paving stones are not new. Paving stones with the “2011” Mouse Ears dated logo on them were sponsored prior to the February 28, 2011 date.

Q: I sponsored a paving stone five years ago, what is going to happen to mine?
A: The sponsorship timeframe of a paving stone is TEN (10) years. If a paving stone needs to be permanently removed prior to the 10th anniversary of sponsorship (see sponsorship agreement, item number four) a full refund of your sponsorship fee will be issued.  If the stone is removed after the 10th anniversary of sponsorship, no refund is required per the sponsorship agreement.  

Q: My sponsorship agreement was for TEN (10) years, what will happen to my paving stone after ten years?
A: At this time, there are no plans to remove or relocate the paving stones.

Q: May I order a wooden or acrylic replica of my sponsored paving stone?
A: Yes, as long as your order is submitted prior to February 28, 2011.

Q: I would like to request that my paving stone be removed and mailed to me as the sponsorship contract on it is about to expire.
A: Per the sponsorship agreement, paving stones are property of the Disneyland® Resort. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide them to our guests.

 Q: I sponsored a paving stone many years ago, but have lost my information.  Can someone still tell me where the paving stone is located?
A: Assistance with locating a paving stone is available in person at Guest Relations or City Hall or by calling Disneyland® Merchandise Guest Services.

Q: Are Disney’s Walk of Magical Memories” paving stones regularly maintained?
A: General maintenance is provided to the paving stones as necessary.
