Disney VoluntEARS Plant an Herb Garden At A Transitional Home in Florida

A group of VoluntEARS from Disney’s Boardwalk Inn have planted and delivered basil, oregano and rosemary to a transitional housing facility in Kissimmee, Florida.

This volunteer effort was coordinated by Boardwalk Cast Members and the non-profit organization HOME (Helping Others Make the Effort,) which provides services to homeless families in need.

Boardwalk Inn General Manager Dave Venables says:

It feels great to be able to contribute in any way we can in our community. One of the things our company stands for is being a great partner in Central Florida. We look forward to more opportunities like this one.

Each family who lives in the transitional housing facility were given a terra cotta pot filled with the donated herbs, while Boardwalk Inn’s Chef Ken Hittman and Sous Chef Jarrod Pearman put on a cooking demonstration to teach the families how to incorporate the herbs into their meals.

HOME also received a $25,000 grant from Disney in order to help them further their efforts to provide assistance to homeless families in need of a helping hand to get back on their feet.
