Disneyland’s Toontown Evacuated Tuesday Night after Small Explosion in Trash Can

A small explosion in a trash can Tuesday night in Disneyland’s Toontown led police to evacuate visitors from that area of the park. No injuries were reported.

The Anaheim Police Department said the device appeared to be a “dry ice bomb” made up of dry ice placed in a plastic bottle. A police sergeant said it was similar to other devices that have been found in Anaheim neighborhoods in recent months, and investigators are looking into whether those events are connected.

In a statement, Disneyland said “a small bang was heard in a trash can…In an abundance of caution we evacuated Toontown to allow local authorities the opportunity to investigate.”

The explosion was confined to the trash can, and after several hours the Toontown area was reopened.
