First-Ever WNBA Preseason Tournament to be Held at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex

ESPNWideWorldOfSportsThe first-ever WNBA Preseason Tournament tips off May 9 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at the Walt Disney World Resort.

The tournament will feature the defending champion Minnesota Lynx, in addition to the Chicago Sky, Indiana Fever, and Phoenix Mercury. The first game is at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 9.

The preseason tournament will include four games, a full slate of clinics, practices, and autograph sessions with WNBA players and coaches. The event is happening in conjunction with the AAU Spring Fling II girls basketball event, which is also at the Wide World of Sports Complex.

The AAU Spring Fling includes more than 1,500 girls basketball players in the 3rd through 12th grades.

“The WNBA is thrilled to be working with AAU and Disney to bring young women who are learning the game and some of today’s top talent in women’s basketball to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex,” said WNBA President Laurel J.Richie in a press release. “This weekend of tournaments will provide a unique opportunity to showcase the current and future talent in our sport.”

The WNBA Preseason Tournament begins at 6 p.m. on May 9 with a game between Chicago and Indiana. That game will be followed by a game between the defending WNBA champs Minnesota versus the Phoenix Mercury.

The winner of those two games will play on Sunday, May 11 at 1 p.m., while the other two teams will play in a consolation game at 10:30 a.m. that morning.

Fans can purchase tickets to the WNBA Preseason Tournament at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex box office or online at www.ticketmaster.com. The two-game package for Friday, May 9 or Sunday, May 11 is $20, while a four-game package for both days is available for $35.
