Florida Family Association Protests Against ‘Gay Days’ at Walt Disney World

The group Florida Family Association is currently seeking donations to help “warn” visitors about the unofficial “Gay Days” held this summer at Walt Disney World.

On their website, the group asks:

How would you feel if you entered the Magic Kingdom anticipating a normal day of fun with your family only to witness thousands of same-sex couples holding hands, hugging, kissing and wearing tee-shirts that promoted their lifestyle?

Disney does not officially sanction Gay Days, but tells its employees to treat it like any other day. The event began in 1991, and has since grown to more than 20,000 participants since 2010. Initially, the event was a one-day affair, but now comprises a week of social gatherings at the theme parks and hotels.

The Florida Family Association has raised about half their goal of $8,400 to fly a banner around the park, warning visitors and their families of the Gay Days event. Last year, they were able to fly a banner for around 20 hours and have credited themselves with dropping “mainstream family attendance” about 50-60%.
