Frozen-teaser-posterDisney’s monster animated hit, the Academy Award-winning Frozen has just broken yet another box office record becoming the highest grossing animated film ever.

The film opened in its last market – Japan – at the end of March and the box office receipts for the film now total $1.072 billion.

This total trumps Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 3’s box office earnings of $1.063 billion in 2010.

Frozen has become the top Disney or Pixar release in 27 overseas territories, and has grossed $50.5 million in Japan since it opened at the end of March.

The film has also made it onto the list of top 10 films of all time.

In addition to the financial success of the film, Frozen has also won critical praise in addition to winning the Golden Globe for best animated film and two Academy Awards – for best animate film and best original song.

The Blu-ray was released on March 18 and sold 3.2 million DVD and Blu-ray discs in one day, putting it on track to become one of the biggest home video sellers in more than ten years.
