George Clooney to Star in Upcoming Disney Sci-Fi Film ‘1952’

A few days ago, we let you know that the upcoming Disney film 1952 was given the official release date of December 19, 2014. While not much is yet known about the film, the recent announcement of its release date also included the exciting news that the film will star famed actor George Clooney.

Clooney, best known for his work on such television series and films as EROceans ElevenUp in the Air, and The Descendants, is now officially signed on as the star of 1952, confirming rumors about the actor’s involvement in the film that began late last year. 1952 will be the first time in the Academy Award winner’s lengthy movie career that Clooney has worked with Disney. No information about the character that Clooney will play is yet known.

1952 is an upcoming sci-fi film at Disney that, while reportedly in the works since 2011, is still largely shrouded in mystery. The film is reported to be a large scale science fiction film that is similar in vein to Steven Spielberg’s 1978 film Close Encounters of the Third Kind. What is known about the film, however, is that it will feature the strong creative talents of Damon Lindelof and Brad Bird. Lindelof, best known as the co-creator of the hit show Lost, will serve as the film’s producer, as well as co-writer with Pixar’s Brad Bird. Bird, who recently made his live-action film directing debut with Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, will also direct. 1952 will be released in 3D.
