‘Girl Meets World’ Officially Picked Up By Disney Channel

Ever since it was announced that a spinoff of Boy Meets World was in the works, we’ve been eagerly waiting to hear more about the exciting new show’s fate. This week, it was announced that Corey and Topanga Matthews will be officially returning to television, as the spinoff Girl Meets World was officially picked up by the Disney Channel.

Girl Meets World will focus on Corey and Topanga’s daughter Riley Matthews (Rowan Blanchard) as she transitions to middle school life and starts the 7th grade. Just as Boy Meets World centered on Corey as he navigated school with the help of his family, best friend, and mentor Mr. Feeny, Riley will too be aided by her best friend Maya (Sabrina Carpenter) and her parents. However, Corey will be playing double duty, as he is also Riley’s history teacher, while Topanga owns a trendy afterschool hangout that specializes in pudding.

Boy Meets World fans will also be happy to hear that Mr. Feeny will be returning once again, with William Daniels set to appear as the wise mentor in the show’s pilot. There has been no official word yet on if other cast members from the original show will be appearing on the new series.

In a statement, Boy Meets World and Girl Meets World creator Michael Jacobs commented:

Girl Meets World is a new show for a new generation that will be rooted in the same kind of honest, comedic storytelling about coming of age and the importance of family and friendship that made Boy Meets World so popular.”

Girl Meets World will begin filming in Los Angeles this summer, with the show’s debut set for 2014 on Disney Channel.
