Johnny Depp to Make ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5’?

Looks like chances are good – very good – that Captain Jack Sparrow will be back for another mad cap adventure, as The Wrap is reporting that Johnny Depp is close to signing on for a fifth installment of the wildly popular Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Jerry Bruckheimer, producer for the films, had previously stated that he was working on Pirates 5, but was clear that the film would not be made without Depp’s involvement.  However, with Pirates of the Caribbean:  On Stranger Tides, the fourth film in the series, having recently passed the $1 billion mark globally, chances for a fifth film seem pretty good.

Neither Depp nor Disney are offering a comment at this point.

Depp has proven to be box office gold for Disney films.  In addition to the character of Captain Jack Sparrow, who appeals to young, old, men, and women alike, Depp also played the Mad Hatter in Disney’s 2010 live action Alice in Wonderland, brought to life by Tim Burton.  Next year, Disney hopes that the versatile actor will also lend his star power to The Lone Ranger, in which he is set to play the Masked Man’s trusty sidekick, Tonto.
