LaShawn Merritt Trained at ESPN Wide World of Sports and Returns from Rio with Two Medals

merrittTeam USA Olympic sprinter LaShawn Merritt returns to the States with two medals – a gold from the 4×400-meter relay and a bronze from the 400-meter race.

Merritt trains at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World with other sprinters and former US Olympic track coach Brooks Johnson.

After missing the 2012 London Olympic Games due to an injury, Merritt qualified for the 2016 Rio Games. In 2008 he won the gold medal for the 400-meter and 4×400-meter relay in Bejing.

At the Rio games, Merritt anchored the 4×400-meter team that also included Arman Hall, Tony McQuaid, and Gil Roberts. Team USA has won six of the previous eight gold medals in this event.

In the 400-meter race Merritt earned the bronze with a finish time of 43.85 seconds.
