Marvel Announces New Merchandise Program Ahead of the 2017 Sequel to ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’
The new merchandise program will offer “year-round support to the franchise” with a focus on young consumers. The program will include new toys, games, books, apparel, accessories, and more.
A slate of new Marvel Publishing titles is planned, as is a second season of the Disney XD Guardians of the Galaxy animated series.
A press release about the new merchandise program says Marvel is priming Guardians of the Galaxy to be a “true evergreen tentpole franchise.”
The program will focus on kids ages 6-11 and will feature new toys from Hasbro, LEGO, and more. Disney Publishing has signed with bestselling authors who will “bring their unique perspectives to the Marvel universe” with new titles.
The first Guardians of the Galaxy was the No. 3 movie of 2014 and exceeded all expectation at the box office. The sequel is set to hit theaters in 2017.
