Melissa Hernandez Wins 2014 Tinker Bell Half Marathon at Disneyland Resort

Winning the Tinker Bell Half Marathon took a little more than faith, trust, and pixie dust.

Oxnard, California resident Melissa Hernandez flew to the finish line at last weekend’s half marathon in Disneyland finishing the 13.1 mile course in 1:25:40. Her finish time was nearly two minutes ahead of second place finisher Alyssa White of Durham, NC who finished in 1:27:28.

Hernandez’s time was the third-fastest time in the three year history of the Tinker Bell Half Marathon. The winner of the inaugural Tinker Bell Half Marathon, Kellie Nickerson, placed third this year.

More than 15,000 runners ran the Tinker Bell Half Marathon through the Disneyland Resort and past several Anaheim landmarks. As is expected with runDisney events, the course featured music, entertainment, Disney characters, and runners decked out in costumes.

The Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend included the Never Land Family Fun Run 5K, the Disneyland 10K, runDisney Kids Races, and a Pasta Party. Participants also had a chance to visit the three-day health and fitness expo.

The Tinker Bell Half Marathon is one of two women-focused runDisney events. The other – the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend presented by Children’s Miracle Network takes place next month at the Walt Disney World Resort.
