Merida Set to Become an Official Disney Princess

Disney is adding one more princess to its royal roster. On May 11, Merida – the red headed princess from Disney/Pixar’s Brave – will celebrate her royal coronation at the Magic Kingdom.

Her official coronation ceremony is planned for 9:30 a.m. at Cinderella’s Castle. The current royal court of 10 official Disney Princesses is expected to attend. Guest visiting the Magic Kingdom that day are also welcome to witness the coronation.

As the 11th official Disney Princess, Merida is joining Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, and Rapunzel in the royal court. Rapunzel celebrated her coronation in 2011 at Kensington Palace in London, while Tiana’s coronation ceremony was held in 2009 at the Magic Kingdom.

Merida is the first Disney/Pixar character to join the princess ranks. Brave was the eighth highest grossing film of 2012, earning $237.3 million in domestic box office sales and winning the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.
