More Closures Announced at Disney’s Hollywood Studios as Expansion Projects Ramp Up

earffeltower2It’s time to say goodbye to another park icon at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The Earffel Tower – the park’s water tower topped with Mickey Mouse ears – is coming down to make way for Toy Story Land. While no removal date was given the 130-foot-tall structure has been part of the Studios’ landscape since the park opened.

There is no word on whether the iconic structure will be moved somewhere else or will join the Sorcerer’s Hat in the graveyard of former theme park icons.

The Lights, Motor, Action! Extreme Stunt Show is also slated to close on April 2 along with Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure, the Monsters, Inc. meet-and-greet, Streets of America, and the Studio Catering Co. quick service restaurant.

Disney announced last year that the park would be home to a Star Wars-themed land and a Toy Story-themed land. There is no official word yet on when construction will begin on those lands or when they will be completed.

In the meantime guests will have to get used to a very different landscape at the Studios.
