Star Tours 2.0, the updated version of the popular 1980’s simulator ride Star Tours, will give eager fans a brand new experience when the attraction re-opens at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort later this spring.

The ride is set between the “Star Wars” prequels and the original trilogy and will feature brand new special effects and high-definition 3-D technology. In fact, riders will be able to change the storyline throughout the ride, resulting in up to 54 new experiences and a different ride each time.

Riders aboard the StarSpeeder 3000 will be able to face off with Boba Fett in an asteroid field; fly through Coruscant and join a pod race on Tatooine, all locations within the fictional but much-loved Star Wars universe.

Other locations have not been confirmed as of this writing, but could include the planet of Hoth; Queen Amidala’s home planet (Naboo;) the Wookie planet of Kashyyk and the Death Star space station.

Characters that have been confirmed for the Star Tours 2.0 revamp include Princess Leia, Chewbacca, C-3PO, R2-D2, Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Admiral Ackbar, and – wise, he is – Yoda.

Riders will also be introduced to two brand-new droid characters: AC-38 (a Starspeeder Pilot) and Aly San San, a spokesbot that will be voiced by Allison Janney.

The updated attraction will re-open May 20 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida and June 3 at Disneyland Park in California.

Will you be in line on opening day?
