Photos: Storybook Circus Opens at Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland

Earlier this week, we told you about Storybook Circus “soft-opening” in Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland, and today we have several photos to share with you of the new attractions that are now available to guests.

The three attractions that are now open include:

  • The first section of “Dumbo, the Flying Elephant” For the first time in Magic Kingdom history, Dumbo spins clockwise
  • “The Barnstormer, Starring The Great Goofini” roller coaster
  • “The Fantasyland Train Station,” one of three stops for The Walt Disney World Railroad

Says Chris Beatty, Creative Director, Fantasyland Expansion for Walt Disney Imagineering:

The Storybook Circus area pays tribute to the traveling circuses of the 1950s and 1960s – the setting for Walt Disney’s Dumbo – and we’ve put a lot of signature Imagineer details into every nook and cranny.

Some of the details you’ll see include a new red and gold color scheme for the Dumbo attraction, as well as signature illustrations from one of the animators from The Little Mermaid, and a new water fountain feature circling the base of the Dumbo ride. Other details to help guests feel immersed in the world of the “traveling circus” include peanuts, hoof and paw prints throughout the walkways.

Meanwhile, there are several posters in Storybook Circus depicting some of the Great Goofini’s stunts; these posters pay homage to several 50’s and 60’s animated shorts starring Goofy. Finally, the Fantasyland Train Station includes a Casey, Jr.-inspired weather vane and Carolwood Park Sign – a nod to the steam engine Walt Disney himself had in his back yard.

While this section is in “soft opening,” it means some of these attractions will work at some times and not at others. The rest of the Fantasyland expansion is scheduled to open in phases, with all attractions to be open within the next two years.
