runDisney Cancels All Running Events for Saturday, January 7

marathon merchrunDisney has announced that all running events planned for Saturday, January 7, during the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend have been cancelled.

The cancellation was announced as the weather forecast is calling for an ‘elevated risk’ of lightning in the area and the fact that some areas of the race course do not provide access to shelter.

The half marathon and the runDisney Kids’ Races are the two events that are cancelled. The Health & Fitness Expo will not open until 11 a.m. on Saturday morning.

Runners who were registered for the half marathon will still receive their finisher medals and can choose:

  • A full refund for their race registration in the form of a Disney gift card
  • Two One-Day Park Hopper tickets
  • Defer registration to another runDisney half marathon race in the U.S. within the next 24 months, subject to availability

All runners who were registered for the Kids’ Races will also receive their finisher medals and a refund of their registration in the from of a gift card.

  • Wow, pretty crappy that the refund is a Disney Gift Card. While it is the runners choice to fly, stay at Disney hotels, spend money on food etc. They may want the cash back. It should be an option to have credit card reimbursed.
