Sequel to ‘The Muppets’ In the Works, Jason Segel Not Involved

Good news, Muppet fans! Following the success of last fall’s film The Muppets, it looks like the Muppets’ next appearance on the big screen may not be too far away. Vulture.com is reporting that Disney has reached a deal with The Muppets director James Bobin and co-writer Nicholas Stoller to pen a sequel to the hit film.

However, not all of the original creative team for The Muppets will be reuniting for this feature. Co-writer and star of The Muppets Jason Segel, who had perhaps the biggest influence in bringing the Muppets back onto the big screen, will not be available to collaborate with Stoller and Bobin on the new film due to his busy schedule. In addition to his screenwriting work and roles in such upcoming films as The Five Year Engagement and This Is Forty, Segel also stars in the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother. There may be a possibility, however, of Segel appearing in the new Muppet film, depending on how the Bobin/Stoller script turns out.

Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting news. The Muppets will be available to own on DVD and Blu-ray March 20.
