ABC Buys New Comedy Series Starring Ashley Tisdale

Disney Channel star Ashley Tisdale, best known for her work on The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, High School Musical, and Phineas and Ferb, will soon be taking on a whole new role. Tisdale recently sold a new comedy series to ABC, which she will both star in and co-executive produce with Warren Littlefield.

‘Modern Family’ Earns Five Primetime Emmy Awards, Including Outstanding Comedy Series

Last night’s 2011 Primetime Emmy Awards broadcast honored some of the top shows and individuals on television, but no show made quite as much of a splash as the hit ABC series Modern Family. The show, whose third season will debut on Wednesday, September 21, took home five Primetime Emmy awards, the most of any series.

‘Desperate Housewives’ to End After Eight Seasons

ABC announced some disappointing news this week for Desperate Housewives fans. The show, an iconic series that has helped to revive ABC’s prime-time popularity, will come to a close at the end of its upcoming season.

‘Phineas and Ferb: Across the Second Dimension’ is No. 1 Cable Movie of 2011 with 7.6 Million Viewers

Did you watch the new Disney Channel Original Movie Phineas and Ferb: Across the Second Dimension last night? Disney Receives Golden Globe Nominations for Films, TV Series

Disney and ABC Studios received a total of nine Golden Globe nominations, which were announced on Tuesday morning.

Disney and Netflix Sign Streaming Deal

If you subscribe to Netflix, then finding that old episode of “Desperate Housewives” is now just a mouse click away!
Netflix announced this week that it had reached a deal with the Walt Disney Company to stream reruns of many of the company’s shows – including series that air on ABC, ABC Family, and the Disney Channel.  The deal covers episodes from previous seasons, but also provides access to some shows that aired as recently as 15 days ago.
At present, the companies have a one-year deal, with an option for expansion.

Creative Arts Emmys 2010: ABC Leads Broadcast Networks with 15 Awards; “Wizards of Waverly Place” Movie Wins As Well

The Creative Arts Emmys 2010 were awarded last night, and Disney/ABC’s achievements in television this year were not forgotten. While HBO was the top winner of the night, earning 17 awards, ABC led the broadcast networks with 15 awards.
ABC’s TV programs earned many of the awards, including “Modern Family,” which took home three awards for their casting, picture editing, and sound mixing. “Dancing With the Stars” also earned multiple awards, receiving two awards for hairstyling and technical direction. “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Lost,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” and “FlashForward” all won one award …

ABC President Stephen McPherson Abruptly Resigns

President of ABC Entertainment, Stephen McPherson, announced his resignation from the network yesterday. With his contract set to expire in September 2011, the resignation comes at a surprising time, with only two months until the fall TV season begins and six days until the ABC executives are set to tout the networks newest shows to TV critics in Beverly Hills.
The resignation comes, the Los Angeles Times reports, because of “repeated clashes with his bosses,” such as Anne Sweeney, the president of the Disney ABC Television Group. These clashes were said …

Lost was one of ABC’s most successful shows and its finale leaves many wondering what will replace it in the ABC lineup.

Disney to Sunset “SoapNet” Channel, Making Room For “Disney Junior”

CORRECTION:  Since this story was published, DisZine has been contacted by ABC Daytime and SOAPnet, who offered clarification on the transition of channels carrying SOAPnet to Disney Junior.  According to Publicity Director Mitch Messinger, SOAPnet and Disney Junior will run concurrently until SOAPnet is no longer available.  ”SOAPnet will remain available for an undetermined period of time as additional carriage deals for Disney Junior are finalized with distributors,” a spokesperson said.  Many thanks to Mr. Messinger for reaching out to DisZine with this helpful information.
