Disney Films Win Four Oscars

At last night’s star-studded 83rd Annual Academy Awards ceremony, films affiliated with Disney took home four honors out of the thirteen nominations they had received.
Disney Pixar’s “Toy Story 3″ won two Oscars, for Best Animated Feature Film and Best Original Song for Randy Newman’s “We Belong Together.”  Tim Burton’s live action “Alice in Wonderland” also triumphed in two categories:  Art Direction and Costume Design.

Randy Newman Wins Fifth Grammy For “Toy Story 3″ Song

Composer and singer Randy Newman took home his fifth Grammy this weekend, as the Recording Academy awarded him the Best Score Soundtrack Album prize for “Toy Story 3″ at Sunday night’s star-studded ceremony.
This marks the fourteenth nomination for Newman, who has been a fixture in the world of film composition for more than twenty years.  Newman’s album beat out another Disney contender, Alice in Wonderland, to take home honors.

Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus Nominated for Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards

Disney will be well represented at the 2011 Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards.
“Hannah Montana” darling Miley Cyrus leads the pack for most nominations with 3 nods, including Best TV Actress, Best Movie Actress, and Best Female Singer.   Selena Gomez also performed well, with nominations for Best TV Actress for her series “The Wizards of Waverly Place,” as well as Best Female Singer.

Disney CEO’s Pay Increases by Thirty-five Percent

2010 was a good year to be Bob Iger.
The Walt Disney Company Chief Executive saw an increase in pay in 2010 of 35%, jumping to $16.3 million from $12 million the year before, bringing his total compensation to $28 million.  The increase by the board of directors’ compensation committee was in recognition of Iger’s “exceptional performance” during a year otherwise marked by a slow economy.
The committee pointed specifically to the success of three of Disney’s cable channels, Disney Channel, ESPN, and ABC Family, as they delivered record ratings.  Also noted …

Disney Picks Up Thirteen Oscar Nominations

Disney Receives Golden Globe Nominations for Films, TV Series

Disney and ABC Studios received a total of nine Golden Globe nominations, which were announced on Tuesday morning.

Disney Makes History as “Toy Story 3″ Passes the $1 Billion Mark

After already becoming the highest grossing animated film of all time and passing the impressive $400 million dollar mark domestically a few weeks ago, Disney/Pixar’s “Toy Story 3″ has now achieved yet another distinction. Today, Disney reports, “Toy Story 3″ will become the third Disney film to gross $1 billion, joining 2006’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” and this year’s remake of “Alice in Wonderland.”

“Off With Their Heads!” Disney Being Sued Over Use of Red Queen’s Throne

Not only was Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” a huge box office hit for Disney, but it was visually captivating & used some stunning design elements that theater-goers reacted to. Over-the-top costumes, opulent architecture, and lavish furnishings completed the overall dreamy ‘Wonderland’ feel that Tim Burton gave detailed attention to.
