Cate Blanchett in Talks to Join Disney’s Live Action ‘Cinderella’

Disney’s live-action remake of Cinderella has been under development since 2010, and now rumors are circulating that Cate Blanchett is in talks to be the first cast member to sign onto the project.
Blanchett is rumored to play the role of Cinderella’s evil stepmother, in a re-telling that ex music video director Mark Romanek is slated to direct. He’ll be working from a screenplay directed by Chris Weitz, who took inspiration from Aline Brosh McKenna’s initial pitch to the media giant.

Chris Weitz Rumored to Re-Write Disney’s Live Action ‘Cinderella’

In 2010, Disney bought a pitch from The Devil Wears Prada screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna for a live-action Cinderella; a project that was reportedly worth a cool $1 million.
Now, Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass, About a Boy) is rumored to be in talks with Disney to re-write the script. Weitz, who also directed 2009’s Twilight film “New Moon,” was also nominated for an Academy Award for About a Boy.
