Ben Sherwood to Succeed Anne Sweeney as President of Disney/ABC Television Group

The Walt Disney Company has announced that ABC News President Ben Sherwood will replace Anne Sweeney as co-chairman, Disney Media Networks and president of the Disney/ABC Television Group.
Sweeney recently announced that she is leaving her position in February 2015 to pursue a career on the creative side of the entertainment industry.

Disney Executive Anne Sweeney Named Most Powerful Woman in Entertainment

According to the latest rankings from The Hollywood Reporter, Anne Sweeney has been named the most powerful woman in entertainment.
This is the third year in a row that the co-chair of the Disney Media Network and president of of the Disney/ABC Television Group has topped the list. Rankings are assigned based on “revenue generated for their companies, valuation of assets, number of employees overseen, influence within the film and television industries, ability to get projects greenlighted or proximity to greenlight power, general standing and reputation within the entertainment community.”

Disney Extends Global Distribution Deal for Academy Awards Through 2020

This week, Disney and The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences announced that Disney Media Distribution has extended its global distribution contract for the Academy Awards through 2020. The agreement allows Disney to cover sales of the Oscars to international networks and media platforms.

Anne Sweeney Named MIPCOM 2011 Personality of the Year

Anne Sweeney, Disney/ABC Television Group President, as well as Disney Media Works Co-Chair, has been named MIPCOM’s Personality of the Year for 2011 by Reed MIDEM, a leading organizer globally of tradeshows.  This marks the first time that a woman has been honored with the distinction.

Disney/ABC’s Anne Sweeney Named Top of ‘Power 100′ List

At a special breakfast event last week, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Disney/ABC Television’s president, Anne Sweeney, topped their list of the most powerful 100 women in the entertainment industry.
The invitation-only event, held at the Beverly Hills Hotel, was hosted by CBS News anchor Katie Couric.  Actress Halle Berry also presented fellow actress Helen Mirren with the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award at the ceremony, which was attended by 600 guests, including almost all of the women honored on the “Power 100″ list.

ABC President Stephen McPherson Abruptly Resigns

President of ABC Entertainment, Stephen McPherson, announced his resignation from the network yesterday. With his contract set to expire in September 2011, the resignation comes at a surprising time, with only two months until the fall TV season begins and six days until the ABC executives are set to tout the networks newest shows to TV critics in Beverly Hills.
The resignation comes, the Los Angeles Times reports, because of “repeated clashes with his bosses,” such as Anne Sweeney, the president of the Disney ABC Television Group. These clashes were said …
