‘Thor: The Dark World’ Dominates at Box Office and The Walt Disney Studios Reach All-Time Global Box Office High

For the second weekend in a row, Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World topped the box office bringing in nearly $40 million.
The film – which cost $170 million to make – has earned $147 million at the domestic box office so far. Internationally the sequel has grossed $332.9 million, and $470.8 million worldwide. Marvel’s Thor earned $181 million domestically and $449 million worldwide.
At its current pace, the film should easily earn more than $700 million worldwide.

Disney Becomes First Studio to Cross $1 Billion at Domestic Box Office This Year

Despite the underperformance of The Lone Ranger, Disney reached a major milestone this week, as their domestic box office grosses officially hit the $1 billion mark. This is the eighth year in a row that Disney has been the first studio to reach this milestone.

‘Monsters University’ Opens at the Top of the Box Office Taking in $82 Million during Debut Weekend

Disney/Pixar’s Monsters University graduated at the top of its class, earning an $82 million during its debut weekend in theaters.
This marks the 14th number one opening weekend for Pixar at the box office. The Disney-owned studio has only released 14 films, which means every film released by Pixar has opened in first place.

‘Iron Man 3’ Grosses $1 Billion Internationally

After having the second highest-grossing opening weekend of all time, Disney and Marvel’s Iron Man 3 earned a new box office distinction this week, as it was announced that the film has now grossed over $1 billion in ticket sales internationally.
Disney announced the milestone on Friday, only three weeks after the film was first released overseas. As of Friday, Iron Man 3 had grossed $302 million domestically after 14 days in theaters and $699 million overseas.

‘Oz: The Great and Powerful’ Grosses $80 Million in Opening Weekend

Did you go see Disney’s Oz: The Great and Powerful in theaters this weekend? If so, you certainly weren’t alone, as it was announced today that the film grossed $80.3 million domestically in its opening weekend, making it one of the biggest March openings ever.

Two Disney offerings are still in the top 5 at the box office this weekend. Reuters is reporting that “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” starring Nicholas Cage was number four and “Toy Story 3” from Pixar is still number five.
