Merida Officially Becomes Eleventh Disney Princess in Magic Kingdom Ceremony

Today was an important day for the Disney Princesses, as Merida, star of Disney/Pixar’s Brave, officially became the eleventh Disney Princess. The coronation took place during a ceremony held this morning at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.
The ceremony was attended by all ten current Disney Princesses: Snow White, Aurora, Belle, Ariel, Cinderella, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Tiana, Mulan, and Rapunzel. Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas was also on hand to preside over the ceremony, and Merida was officially given the title of a Disney Princess by her mother, Queen Elinor.

Merida Set to Become an Official Disney Princess

Disney is adding one more princess to its royal roster. On May 11, Merida – the red headed princess from Disney/Pixar’s Brave – will celebrate her royal coronation at the Magic Kingdom.
Her official coronation ceremony is planned for 9:30 a.m. at Cinderella’s Castle. The current royal court of 10 official Disney Princesses is expected to attend. Guest visiting the Magic Kingdom that day are also welcome to witness the coronation.

‘Brave,’ ‘Paperman,’ ‘Lincoln’ Earn 2013 Oscars

Last night, Hollywood celebrated the performers, creators, and  at the 2013 Academy Awards. While Argo earned Best Picture, several Disney films were also honored with Oscars at the ceremony, which also included an appearance by the cast of The Avengers.
Following its wins at the BAFTAs, Golden Globes, and Annie Awards, Disney/Pixar’s recent film Brave earned the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Co-directors Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman accepted the award, making Chapman the first woman to earn an Oscar for Best Animated Feature. ‘Brave’ Earns 2013 BAFTA Award

While the Oscars are still a few weeks away here in the United States, the United Kingdom celebrated this year’s achievements in film last night at the annual BAFTA Awards. In addition to such other esteemed films as Argo and Skyfall, Disney/Pixar’s recent film Brave took home one of the top honors of the night.

‘Wreck-It Ralph,’ ‘Paperman,’ and Others Earn 2013 Annie Awards

The Oscars are still a few weeks away, but this weekend, this year’s animated films were given a chance to shine at the 40th Annual Annie Awards. Disney films took home many of the top awards this year, including the top prizes of Best Animated Feature and Animated Short Subject.

Walt Disney Studios Earns 17 Oscar Nominations

The Walt Disney Studios definitely has something to celebrate: the Oscar nominations were announced, and the company earned 17 nominations for their films!
Lincoln took the most nominations with 12 total, including a nomination for Best Picture. Additionally, Lincoln earned the distinction of being the most nominated film of the year. Other Disney films earned one nomination each, including Frankenweenie, Brave, Wreck-It Ralph, Paperman and The Avengers.

‘Muppets,’ ‘Brave,’ and ‘Newsies’ Nominated for Grammy Awards

This week brought the announcement of the nominees for this year’s Grammy Awards. Among the nominees were several Disney songs and albums, featuring music from Newsies, The Muppets, and more.
The Broadway cast recording of Newsies earned a nomination for Best Musical Theater Album. The hit Broadway show features music by Jack Feldman and Alan Menken, who has previously won five Grammy Awards for his work on such Disney films as Tangled, The Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast.

‘The Avengers’ and ‘Brave’ Return to Theaters for Labor Day Weekend

This summer, Marvel’s The Avengers took the box office by storm, grossing almost $1.5 billion to become the third-highest-grossing film of all time.
