Disney VoluntEARS Creating Handmade Gifts for Central Florida Hospitals

A special group of Disney VoluntEARS are creating handmade items to donate to Central Florida hospitals and other organizations.
The BlanketEARS started up in 2007 when the group would get together once a week to knit caps for soldiers who were overseas. The group is much bigger now and they use their time and talent to create knit, crochet, and sew baby hats, pet mats, quilts, and more.
Each month the BlanketEARS pack up their handmade creations and send them to Central Florida hospitals and community organizations including the Orlando Day Nursery, …

Walt Disney World Resort Donating $1 Million to Central Florida Nonprofits

The Walt Disney World Resort has announced plans to give more than $1 million to Central Florida nonprofits to recognize the efforts of the Disney VoluntEARS.
The donations are made through the company’s EARS to You grants in honor of the 308,000 hours of community service that were donated by VoluntEARS in 2013. So far this year Disney has given more than 1,500 EARS to You grants to nonprofit organizations.

Walt Disney World Resort Recognizes 15 Central Florida Students as Disney Dreamers & Doers Shining Stars

The Walt Disney World Resort has recognized 15 local, Central Florida students as Disney Dreams and Doers Shining Stars.
The students selected for the Shining Star distinction include a second grade student who assists disabled students, an eighth grade student who created a documentary that promotes South African girls’ education, and a senior in high school who helped a friend lose more than 100 pounds.

Disney Dreamer and Doers Program Accepting Nominations through April 25

The Disney Dreamers and Doers Program is currently accepting nominations for Central Florida students who inspire others as role models in their communities and schools.
Students are encouraged to nominate themselves and based on the nominations, school principals in Central Florida will select one student to represent their classmates as Dreamers and Doers.
Once the students are selected, a panel of Disney judges will then select up to 15 Shining Stars from the public and private elementary, middle, and high schools in Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Lake, and Polk counties.

Central Florida Business Leaders Don Mickey Mouse Ears and Show Their Disney Side at “One Orlando” Leadership Summit

The Walt Disney World Resort recently hosted the three-day “One Orlando” Leadership Summit for business leaders in Central Florida.
The event was organized by the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission, Visit Orlando, and the Central Florida Partnership to showcase best practices in the region.

Disney to Award Grants to Local Nonprofits

About 100 Central Florida nonprofits have applied for grants through the Disney Helping Kids Shine grant program.
Disney will be awarding grants from $10,000 to $75,000 to nonprofits that focus on building bright futures for local children. Last year, Disney donated a total of $1.5 million to 59 local nonprofits and Florida school districts through the Disney Helping Kids Shine initiative.

Disney World Cast Members Hosting School Supply Drive for Central Florida Schools

On Thursday, Walt Disney World cast members will be donating thousands of school supplies to Central Florida schools.
This back-to-school supply drive will be held at the Disney Distribution Center at 10 a.m., where superintendents from Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake and Polk counties will attend as school buses from each district are loaded up with school supplies. Mickey Mouse and his familiar pals will also be on hand to help with the collection of donated supplies.

Disney Fantasy to Create 500+ Jobs in Central Florida

We let you know a few weeks ago about the economic impact of the current Disney Parks expansions, but new information has recently come out that Disney Cruise Line will be a source of many new jobs as well. According to an economic impact study conducted by Martin Associates, Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Disney Fantasy, will generate over 500 direct, indirect, and induced jobs in the Port Canaveral, FL area, as well as attracting thousands of additional cruise guests to the port.

Disney BlanketEARs Knit Items for Donation to Charity

Last week, the Disney BlanketEARs worked together to knit and crochet items to various charitable organizations in and around Central Florida. The BlanketEARS, founded in 2007, started small – once a week, they would get together and knit caps for military personnel deployed overseas.
