Disney VoluntEARS Celebrating 30th Anniversary This Month

Earlier this week, Mickey Mouse and more than 250 Walt Disney World Cast Members kicked off the month-long 30th anniversary celebration of Disney VoluntEARS.
The VoluntEARS program is a global, company-wide initiative that provides Cast Members with the chance to contribute their time and make a positive impact on their community. In 2012, Walt Disney World VoluntEARS donated 230,000 hours to support more than 1,700 organizations in Central Florida. And this year, Disney is donating $916,000 to 450 local non-profit agencies and service groups through Disney’s EARS to You program.

New Cast Member Costumes for Test Track Revealed

While the completely revamped version of Epcot’s Test Track won’t open until later next week, Disney is now giving us a look at the cast member costumes that will be worn at the renovated attraction.
Last week, cast members were on hand at Test Track in these new costumes to answer questions about the attraction before its official reopening. The new costumes reflect the updated design of the attraction, with a sleek, modern look that reflects both style and innovation. Disney’s Art of Animation Resort Honors Walt Disney’s Legacy of Environmental Conservation

While Disney’s new Art of Animation Resort delves deep into the stories of some beloved Disney characters, it is also a testament to Walt Disney’s legacy of protecting the environment. There are many environmental enhancements that were added to the resort, including:

Disney Cast Members Donate Thousands of Meals to Second Harvest Food Bank

Walt Disney Cast Members will be able to provide more than 4,000 meals to Second Harvest Food Bank, a United Way organization, thanks to a recent food drive hosted by the FAMILIES Diversity Research Group (DRG.)
In partnership with Walt Disney World Community Relations, cast members collected more than 6,000 pounds of non-perishable food. DRG set up 40 drop off locations for the donated food, and were able to fill 10 pallets with the collected donations.

Disney World Using the iPad for New FastPass System

Walt Disney World is currently testing their new FastPass system, and now we’ve heard that Disney World employees have been given iPads in carry around the theme park as part of the testing phase.
Guests who have been selected as part of the testing will be given a card that acts as their “ticket” to the FastPass line. When a guest shows up for the ride, they wave their card in front of a special RFID sensor and their information will be sent to a nearby Cast Member’s iPad. Once the …

Two Disney Cast Members’ Kids to be Honored for Winning National Safety Poster Contest

Two Disney Cast Members’ children are being honored for placing in the American Society of Safety Engineers’ (ASSE) annual Safety Poster Contest, a contest designed to teach children the importance of job safety while learning about careers in the fields of occupational safety and health.
13 year old Victor Fan, son of Ming Fan who works in merchandise at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, took first place honors. Meanwhile, 5 year old Takoda Paschel, son of Walt Disney Imagineering employee Christie Paschel, took third in his age group.

Disney Cast Members Bury a Time Capsule at Disney’s California Adventure

Last weekend, a group of Disney cast members and Imagineers marked a milestone in the construction of Buena Vista Street at Disney California Adventure Park by burying a time capsule. The time capsule, which contains items specific to the park, was buried in Buena Vista Plaza and will not be opened again until 2037.

Disney BlanketEARs Knit Items for Donation to Charity

Last week, the Disney BlanketEARs worked together to knit and crochet items to various charitable organizations in and around Central Florida. The BlanketEARS, founded in 2007, started small – once a week, they would get together and knit caps for military personnel deployed overseas.
Throughout the years, the BlanketEARs have expanded greatly and now stitch together a variety of items such as baby caps, pet mats and blankets. Once a month, the organization meets to work on several projects as well as learn a new skill in order to be more …

Disneyland Chef Honored for 55 Years of Service

From its first years of operation in the 1950’s through the present, Disneyland Park has undergone many changes, and one man has been there to witness them all. This week, Disneyland chef Oscar Martinez celebrated his 55th anniversary of working at Disneyland, a milestone that no other Disney park employee has reached. He is one of only six Walt Disney Company employees who have worked at the company for 55 years.

Disney and Hotel Union Come to an Agreement

After four years of a bitter contract disputes between Disney and their hotel union at the company’s Disneyland Resort, the two have finally come to an agreement. On Monday, Disney announced that a five-year contract agreement had been reached for the 2,100 members of Unite Here Local 11.
