Disney Makes Donation to Toys for Tots for the Holidays, Ends 2012 With More Than $292 Million in Donations

A few weeks ago, we let you know about how Disney and its wonderful VoluntEARS donated both toys and their time to the charity Toys for Tots this holiday season. In addition to this generous donation, Disney also announced recently that the company donated $150,000 to the US Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots Foundation.
Of the $150,000 that was donated to the organization, which collects new toys and distributes them to less than fortunate children, $100,000 was specifically allocated to help children that were affected by Hurricane Sandy. In addition …

Disney to Award Grants to Local Nonprofits

About 100 Central Florida nonprofits have applied for grants through the Disney Helping Kids Shine grant program.
Disney will be awarding grants from $10,000 to $75,000 to nonprofits that focus on building bright futures for local children. Last year, Disney donated a total of $1.5 million to 59 local nonprofits and Florida school districts through the Disney Helping Kids Shine initiative.

Disney/ABC Raises $16.8 Million During Its Day of Giving

During Disney/ABC’s “Day of Giving” on Monday, November 5, the companies were able to raise more than $16.8 million for the American Red Cross to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy.
The “Day of Giving” was held in addition to The Walt Disney Co.’s previous donation of $2 million, as well as their employee donation matching program, which will match all eligible employee donations to relief funds dollar for dollar.

Disney Awards Conservation Grant to Wetlands Institute

Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund has awarded a grant to The Jersey Shore Terrapin Conservation Project, a program through the Wetlands Institute. This project is designed to monitor human impact on diamondback terrapins and help reduce the impact through various conservation measures.
Dr. Lenore Tedesco, Wetlands Institute executive director, says:

Disney Donates $150 Thousand to Osceola County for Library

Yesterday, Osceola County received a generous $150,000 donation from Walt Disney World that will be used to construct the West Osceola Branch library.

Disney Cast Members Donate Thousands of Meals to Second Harvest Food Bank

Walt Disney Cast Members will be able to provide more than 4,000 meals to Second Harvest Food Bank, a United Way organization, thanks to a recent food drive hosted by the FAMILIES Diversity Research Group (DRG.)
In partnership with Walt Disney World Community Relations, cast members collected more than 6,000 pounds of non-perishable food. DRG set up 40 drop off locations for the donated food, and were able to fill 10 pallets with the collected donations.

Disney VoluntEARS Plant an Herb Garden At A Transitional Home in Florida

A group of VoluntEARS from Disney’s Boardwalk Inn have planted and delivered basil, oregano and rosemary to a transitional housing facility in Kissimmee, Florida.
This volunteer effort was coordinated by Boardwalk Cast Members and the non-profit organization HOME (Helping Others Make the Effort,) which provides services to homeless families in need.

Disney Characters Spread Cheer at Local Florida Hospitals

Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment team visit the Walt Disney Pavilion at Florida Hospital for Children and Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children throughout the year, bringing exotic animals to spread joy to the children in these hospitals and enable them to focus on the fun instead of their illness.
In addition to the various critters that bring joy to these local hospitals, famous Disney characters like Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Pluto and Chip ‘n’ Dale also also make the rounds to bring smiles to the children’s faces.

Walt Disney World Gives Gift to Florida Food Bank

On Sunday, Walt Disney World presented a $30,000 gift to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida – specifically, their Kids Cafe program.
The Kids Cafe program provides nutritious meals to over 900 local children, and Walt Disney World’s gift helps further the food bank’s goal. Meg Crofton, president of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Operations, presented the gift.

Boys & Girls Club of Souhegan Valley Wins Disney Contest

In a nationwide Boys & Girls Club of America and Disney film making contest, The Boys & Girls Club of Souhegan Valley, New Hampshire, was selected to win the ultimate $10,000 prize.
