Disney Unveils $1.25 Billion Bailout Plan for Disneyland Paris

Disneyland Paris has been thrown a lifeline.
The European theme park is struggling with diminished attendance and high debt, but Disney has announced a $1.25 billion bailout plan.
The recapitalization plan includes a cash infusion of $526 million by Disney and the conversion of $750 million of debt to equity.
Disneyland Paris has been a struggling theme park since it opened in 1992. Disney owns 40 percent of Disneyland Paris, while 10 percent is owned by Saudi Prince Alwaleed, and the rest is publicly held and traded on the Paris Euronext exchange.

Sales of Disney-branded Fruits, Vegetables, and Snacks Has Tripled in Last Two Years

It’s been three years since Disney launched its company-wide Disney Magic of Healthy Living initiative and in the past two years sales of Disney-branded healthy snacks has tripled.
Disney Consumer Products has created Disney-branded fruits, vegetables, snacks, and lunches as part of the Magic of Healthy Living initiative. The products include Foodles snack packs with fruits and cheese, Crunch Paks featuring fresh fruit, and Marvel-themed Snackers packs that feature fruits, cheese, and pretzels.

The Walt Disney Company Named the Most Socially Responsible Company

The Walt Disney Company was recently named one of the most socially responsible companies in the world – sharing the top spot with Microsoft, Google, and BMW.
Reputation Institute – a private consulting firm – conducted a study where more than 55,000 consumers in 15 countries were asked to identify companies with the strongest Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) reputation.
Consumers had to evaluate how much they agree with three statements: (1) Company is a good corporate citizen; (2) Company is a responsibly-run; and (3) Company is an appealing place to work.

Disney VoluntEARS Celebrating 30th Anniversary This Month

Earlier this week, Mickey Mouse and more than 250 Walt Disney World Cast Members kicked off the month-long 30th anniversary celebration of Disney VoluntEARS.
The VoluntEARS program is a global, company-wide initiative that provides Cast Members with the chance to contribute their time and make a positive impact on their community. In 2012, Walt Disney World VoluntEARS donated 230,000 hours to support more than 1,700 organizations in Central Florida. And this year, Disney is donating $916,000 to 450 local non-profit agencies and service groups through Disney’s EARS to You program.

Andy Mooney Resigns as Chairman of Disney Consumer Products

Andy Mooney, Disney’s Chairman of consumer products division, resigned Tuesday to pursue leadership roles with other companies.  The man who is credited with the creation of the wildly popular Disney Princess franchise had been with Disney for nearly 12 years.  The move was seen as a surprise to industry watchers and Disney employees.  Mooney stated his reasons for leaving, as well as his fondness for the company, in an email to employees:

Disney World Attendance Remained Flat During the Fourth Quarter

Attendance at Walt Disney World parks remained largely unchanged this summer from a year ago, reported Disney on Friday.  According to information obtained by the Orlando Sentinel, Disney stated that Florida attendance levels were “within a percentage point” of last year’s totals.
The company began reporting combined attendance levels for its California and Florida theme parks in its fourth fiscal quarter, the first time in at least the last five years that they have chosen to provide the important operating indicator as a combined figure.
