Disney Cruise Line’s latest ship, the Disney Fantasy, celebrated a major milestone in the vessel’s construction Sunday, as the ship underwent its test “float out” in the harbor of shipyard.
Thousands of onlookers watched from shore as Disney’s cruise ship, which is scheduled to make its maiden voyage this spring, made its way out of the enclosed assembly building for the first time, as fireworks were launched overhead.

Earlier last month, the Disney Fantasy sustained a mysterious water-valve leak causing damage to Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, which is still under construction at a German shipyard.
While media sources reported an estimated $1.2 million in damages, a Disney spokeswoman said this figure was greatly exaggerated, and that “[the damage] was not significant.” She also stated that most of the damage has already been repaired, and is not expected to cause issues with delivery dates.

Last week, more than 300 Disney VoluntEARS partnered with Ocean Conservancy, Keep Brevard Beautiful, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Canaveral Port Authority and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Florida to help clean up the Brevard County coastline as part of International Coastal Cleanup. More than 2,000 pounds of trash and debris were picked up along four miles of the coastline.

Yesterday, it was announced that Disney Cruise Line was awarded several honors by the 2011 Cruise Critic Editors’ Picks Awards. Among the award winners was the Disney Dream, Disney’s newest ship, whose maiden voyage set sail earlier this year. The Disney Dream picked up the “Best New Ship” award along with the “Best Inside Cabins” award.
For overall best inside cabins, the Disney Cruise Line picked up that award as well.
