A Very Blustery Day Caused by Hurricane Sandy Reroutes Disney Dream and Fantasy Cruises

Editor’s Note:  Guest Writer Cari Keebaugh is back this week to give us an update on how the tropics are affecting Disney Cruise Line itineraries.  Take it away, Cari!
While Hurricane Sandy isn’t expected to make landfall in Florida, she’s still causing some families to alter their vacation plans.
The Disney Fantasy and the Disney Dream, originally scheduled to make port at Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay, have both rescheduled. Instead of docking at Disney’s private island, both cruise liners will remain at sea for the day in order to avoid the …

Disney Dream Heads for Open Sea to Test Engines

The ship’s horns played “A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes,” fittingly, and fireworks were once again set off, as the Disney Dream headed for the chilly waters of the North Sea to try out her new engines Friday evening.
The ship, which left her enclosed dock in late October to the cheers and fanfare of thousands of local residents, was pulled down the River Ems by tugboat.  The journey, approximately twenty-six miles, required the dismantling of a bridge or two along the way so that the massive ship could …

This past Saturday, all eyes were on Papenburg, Germany, as the world watched the Disney Dream float out of her dry dock and into the waiting waters of Meyer Werft’s shipyard harbor.  But as it turns out, the weekend’s festivities didn’t end with the ceremony and fireworks.
