Disney’s Animal Kingdom Welcomes Elephant Calf

Disney’s Animal Kingdom has welcomed an elephant calf to the park’s herd, bringing the number of elephants to 10.
The new calf, named Stella, was born to 28-year-old Donna. Stella is the third calf for Donna who has also given birth to Nadirah in 2005, and Luna in 2010.
The Animal Kingdom’s elephant herd is made up of three males and six females, plus new baby Stella.
Donna and her calf were “backstage” for a short time so that they could bond but are now “on stage” in the Kilimanjaro Safari.

Animal Kingdom’s Latest Baby Elephant Gets Name

Last week, excitement abounded at Disney’s Animal Kingdom when the park announced the birth of a baby elephant.  This week, we’re learning the brand new name of the male calf.
The baby elephant has been christened Jabali, which means “strong as a rock” in Swahili.  The name is fitting, as the calf, born August 24, will eventually weigh in at over 10,000 pounds!  (The newborn elephant weighed 311 pounds at birth.)  He is doing well, according to Disney officials, and is spending time bonding with his mother, twenty-five year old Vasha, …

Baby Elephant at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is Being Introduced to the Savannah

Back on May 23rd we reported about the birth of a baby elephant at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, a beautiful baby girl. Luna, now almost one month old, is taking her first steps into the Kilimanjaro Safaris Savannah. Luna has a lot of adapting and learning to do and Disney is taking every precaution to foster her health and well-being.
Luna will spend plenty of time bonding with her Mother Donna, she’ll do a “swim test” to prepare herself for the small bodies on water in the Savannah, and she’ll be introduced …
