Disney Movie Magic Debuts at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

A new nighttime projection show has arrived at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Disney Movie Magic is a 10-minute projection show that happens nightly at the Studios.
The show features projection mapping technology that transforms the Chinese Theater with classic moments from Disney films.
Guests will see chimney sweeps from Mary Poppins, Captain Jack, Lightcycles from Tron: Legacy, and Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast.

Emma Watson Cast as Belle in Live-Action ‘Beauty and the Beast’

The worlds of Harry Potter and Disney Princesses are coming together – sort of.
Emma Watson, one of the stars of the Harry Potter films, has signed on to play Belle in the live-action version of Beauty and the Beast.

Disneynature’s ‘Monkey Kingdom’ Headed to Theaters in April 2015

The newest full-length film from Disneynature premieres in theaters on April 17, 2015.
Monkey Kingdom tells the story of Maya, a blonde-bobbed monkey, her son Kip, and their extended monkey family in the jungles of South Asia.
The film follows Maya and her family as they are forced to relocate and find a new home when their home at Castle Rock is overrun by another group of neighboring monkeys. Maya and her family must work together to reclaim their home at Castle Rock.

Disney Announces ‘The Million Dollar Arm Pitching Contest’ to Celebrate the Opening of the New Film ‘Million Dollar Arm’

To celebrate the release of the new film Million Dollar Arm, Disney is hosting The Million Dollar Arm Pitching Contest.
Amateur baseball pitchers are invited to qualify in the preliminary round of the Million Dollar Arm Pitching Contest at the Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland, or the Tribeca/ESPN Sports Day at the Tribeca Family Festival in New York City. Contestants can be male or female, and must be at least 18 years old and residents of the United States.

2014 Disney Trade Celebration Scheduled for September at Walt Disney World Resort

The 2014 Disney Trade Celebration is scheduled for September 5-7 at the World ShowPlace in Epcot.
The Imagination Gala – A Magic Carpet Event is a celebration of the “best of” Disney films, storytelling, characters, and attractions. The honorees are given an Imagination Award that features a Golden Figment.

There’s early award-season buzz about Disney’s Saving Mr. Banks and the movie is making its North American premiere at the AFI Fest on November 7 in Los Angeles.
The film which stars Tom Hanks as Walt Disney, tells the true story of how Disney struggled to bring Mary Poppins to the big screen and his testy relationship with author P. L. Travers who didn’t want an adaptation of her book made into a movie. Travers is played by Emma Thompson.

Ron Howard May Direct Disney’s ‘The Graveyard Book’

Last August, we told you that Disney had pulled the plug on their adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book. Originally, Henry Selick was slated to direct the stop-motion film based on the book about Nobody Owens, who is raised by ghosts after his family is murdered.
Now, sources are reporting that Disney plans to bring back their ideas for The Graveyard Book, with Ron Howard at the helm. According to media reports, the studio has re-configured the film to be a live-action adaptation, and are currently in negotiations with Howard to direct.

Disney and OPI Launch ‘Wizard of Oz’ Nail Lacquer Collection

Popular nail polish brand OPI have announced the launch of an upcoming collection based on Disney’s flick Oz The Great and Powerful. The new collection will feature six shades inspired by the film as well as an additional “Liquid Sand” polish, which is described as a “textured, matte finish infused with reflective sparkle.”

London Street Gets an 8-Bit Makeover as Promo for ‘Wreck-It Ralph’

Haven’t you always wanted to live in a video game – at least for a little while? This past weekend, those living near and visiting Brick Lane in London were able to imagine themselves doing just that, as the city street was transformed into an 8-bit paradise complete with pixelated pigeons, a taxi, clouds, dogs…and even 8-bit dog poo, all created by Disney film production sculptor Aden Hynes. The retro makeover was a promo for Wreck-It Ralph, which is being released in the UK on February 8.

Disney Developing ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Sequel

Sources are reporting that Disney is currently developing a sequel to Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, which earned over $1 billion worldwide for the studio.
Disney hired award-winning screenwriter Linda Woolverton to pen the sequel’s script. Woolverton has worked on several Disney films in the past, including the first Alice as well as Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, and the forthcoming Maleficent.
So far, the studio is keeping plot details for the planned sequel under wraps, but we’ll let you know more as soon as new information becomes available.
