D23 Announces Disneyland Off the Map Sweepstakes

Last year, D23 offered a special ‘Disneyland Off the Map‘ event to a select number of its members, in which guests were invited to see some of Disneyland’s most iconic spots that are usually off-limits to the general public. Due to the event’s overwhelming popularity, the event will return this year as a sweepstakes, with the winning guests earning a spot on this truly one-of-a-kind tour.

D23 to Bring ‘Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives’ Exhibit to Chicago

Last year, D23 gave Disney fans an exciting look at many of the Walt Disney Archives’ most iconic pieces when the Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives exhibit opened at the Reagan Library in California. This week, it was announced that Midwestern Disney fans will soon be able to see the exhibit as well, as it will travel to Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry this fall.

D23 Expo to Celebrate 60 Years of Walt Disney Imagineering

Fans of Disney’s theme parks who are headed to this year’s D23 Expo are in for a treat, as D23 announced this week some of the exciting events and exhibits that Disney’s Parks and Resorts Division have in store for the upcoming Expo. To celebrate the 60th anniversary of Walt Disney Imagineering, Expo attendees will be able to enjoy exclusive panels, access to Imagineers, merchandise, and more.
Like at the 2011 Expo, Imagineering will be hosting a pavilion on the Expo floor this year that offers a glimpse behind-the-scenes at Imagineering. …

The Orange Bird Returns to Walt Disney World’s Adventureland

Last week marked an exciting milestone for fans of Walt Disney World’s past, as a former park character made his triumphant return to the Magic Kingdom. At an official D23 event, Disney announced the return of the Orange Bird to the Sunshine Tree Terrace in Adventureland.

D23 Announces 2012 Schedule of Special Events

D23 members will have a lot to look forward to in 2012. The official Disney Fan Club, which premiered in 2009, will be celebrating its third year with some spectacular and one-of-a-kind events taking place across the country for D23 members.

New Walt Disney and Mickey Statue Coming to Disney California Adventure

A new statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse will be installed at Disney California Adventure, it was revealed at D23 Expo over the weekend.  The statue, depicting Disney and an early version of Mickey Mouse, continues to provide insight into how the massive renovation is transforming the Park into an area reminiscent of the California that Disney would have encountered upon his arrival from Kansas in 1923.  We love this picture, showing how the statue will look.  And here’s an interview from Disney Parks Blog with more details about …

Happy 55th Birthday to the Disneyland Hotel!

On Oct. 5, 1955 the Disneyland Hotel opened as the first major hotel in Orange County, California. Opening nearly 3 months after Walt’s original park, the hotel offered 104 rooms and a helipad on the roof. Fifty-five years later the Disneyland Hotel boasts 969 magically themed rooms, luxury suites, the wildly popular “Goofy’s Kitchen” restaurant, ball rooms, and lots of modern amenities guests in 1955 could only dream of.
