Success of ‘Frozen’ Leads to Strong First Quarter Earnings Report by The Walt Disney Company

The Walt Disney Company released its first quarter earnings report for the first fiscal quarter of 2014 and profits were up 33 percent for the quarter that ended on December 28, 2013.
Walt Disney Studios reported a 75 percent increase in operating income to $409 million. Studio revenue increased 23 percent to $1.9 billion.
These increases were due mostly to the success of Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World which earned $633.1 million in global box office sales, and the worldwide success of the monstrous hit Frozen which is on track to earn …

‘Discover Together’ Symposium at Disneyland Brought Nonprofits Together to Learn About Strengthening Bonds between Kids and Adults

Disney Parks and Resorts recently brought together leaders from 60 nonprofit organizations from around the country for a two-day symposium focused on how adults can make a difference in children’s lives.
The symposium, titled ‘Discover Together,’ took place at the Disneyland Resort and included one day that was dedicated to research and measuring success for nonprofits. Disney also offered attending nonprofits a full day of Disney Institute’s Leadership Excellence training.

The Walt Disney Company Reports Fourth Quarter Earnings

Last week the Walt Disney Company reported a positive end to the fourth quarter and fiscal year 2013 which ended on September 28.
In the report, the company reported a 7 percent increase in revenue for the year to a record $45 billion and an 8 percent increase in net income to a record $6.1 billion.
“We’re extremely pleased with our results for Fiscal 2013, delivering record revenue, net income and earnings per share for the third year in a row,” said Robert A. Iger, Chairman and CEO, The Walt Disney Company.  …

Bob Iger Will Remain Disney’s Chairman and CEO through June 2016

The Walt Disney Company announced this week that Chairman and CEO Bob Iger will remain in that post through June 2016. His contract originally called for him to retire as CEO in April 2015 and transition to the role of executive chairman.
Iger was named CEO of the company on September 30, 2005, and in the last eight years has overseen the acquisition of Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm, in addition to major renovations and additions at the company’s theme parks.

Disney Leadership Undergoes Major Structural Changes in the Wake of Al Weiss Departure

As he previously hinted, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Tom Staggs is taking the opportunity that Al Weiss’ retirement created to shake up the leadership at Disney Parks and Resorts.
